Ingredients
Sushi-grade tuna steaks (ahi tuna)
White sesame seeds
Black sesame seeds
Low-sodium soy sauce
Rice vinegar
Garlic powder
Ginger powder
Red pepper flakes (optional)
Cooking spray or parchment paper
Instructions
Choose sushi-grade tuna with a vibrant red color, firm texture, and fresh sea scent. Look for steaks at least 1 inch thick.
In a shallow dish, combine sesame seeds, soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic powder, ginger powder, and red pepper flakes (if using).
Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels.
Press each side of the tuna steaks firmly into the sesame seed mixture, ensuring they are fully coated.
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes.
Lightly grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper.
Place the sesame-crusted tuna steaks in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not overcrowded.
Cook for 4-6 minutes, depending on the thickness of the steaks and your desired level of doneness.
Check for doneness: The tuna is best served rare or medium-rare. Use a fork to gently flake the center of the tuna. It should be slightly translucent and still pink inside. Avoid overcooking.
